NGC-certified Ancient Gold Coin with Caesar Portrait Offered in Heritage NYINC Sale

A highly prized Roman gold coin certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) that shows a portrait of Julius Caesar is being offered in a January sale. It is among more than 100 coins certified by NGC Ancients in Heritage Auctions' NYINC World Coins Platinum Night sale, scheduled for January 10, 2022.
The top ancient coin in the sale is a Roman Imperatorial, Octavian and Divus J. Caesar (c. 43 BC) Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients VF★, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface (lot 30060). Julius Caesar was assassinated the previous year, and this is the gold coin struck closest to his lifetime that features his portrait. This coin was issued by his grandnephew Octavian, whose portrait is on the other side. Octavian helped defeat Caesar's assassins and eventually consolidated his power as Emperor Augustus. This coin has an estimate of $80,000 to $120,000.
