Newly Discovered 1876-CC Half Eagle, Now Certified by NGC, Stars in Spink Sale

The key-date rarity being sold in December 2020 is one of only three examples with Mint State grades.

A spectacular 1876-CC Liberty Half Eagle certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is featured in its own special sale being held by Spink in London. Online bidding for the E Pluribus Unum e-Auction is now open and ends December 14, 2020.

More than a week before the auction, the recently discovered 1876-CC Liberty Head Half Eagle graded NGC MS 62 had already surpassed its estimate of $30,000 to $40,000 USD. The key date rarity is one of only 6,887 pieces struck, the lowest yearly mintage for any $5 coin from the storied Carson City Mint.

This example is one of only three certified in Mint State and the second finest of its kind. Most 1876-CC Half Eagles are well-circulated and poorly preserved.
