This phenomenal collection of thousands of Scandinavian coins and medals was assembled by Lars Emil Bruun, a Danish entrepreneur who made his fortune in butter and real estate. In accordance with his wishes, it was set aside for a century after his death in 1923 to serve as a replacement for the numismatic collection owned by the Danish government, in case that one was lost. The L. E. Bruun Collection has been certified by NGC and is now being offered in a series of auctions by Stack's Bowers Galleries that started in September 2024. In that sale, a Denmark 1496 Noble realized €1.2 million (about $1.33 million), a record for any coin from Scandinavia.
