This collection of thousands of Scandinavian coins and medals was assembled by Lars Emil Bruun, a Danish entrepreneur. It was set aside for a century after his death to serve as a replacement for the numismatic collection owned by the Danish government. The L. E. Bruun Collection has been certified by NGC and is being offered in a series of auctions by Stack's Bowers Galleries that started in September 2024. In that sale, a Denmark 1496 Noble realized €1.2 million (about $1.33 million), a record for any coin from Scandinavia.

They began with the rudimentary 'NE' coins of 1652, which were followed over the next 30 years by Willow Tree, Oak Tree and Pine Tree issues. The handmade dies gave rise to a fascinating assortment of die varieties, which have been carefully documented by numismatic researcher Christopher J. Salmon. His collection is being offered by Heritage Auctions in a series of sales beginning in August 2022.
